The Foundation for Rural Education Excellence
Supporting Academic Achievement in Rural Northeast Florida Communities
Since it was founded in 1998, The Foundation for Rural Education Excellence, a registered 501 (C)(3) organization, has supported the rural school districts of the North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC): Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, Suwannee and Union Counties as well as Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and PK Yonge Developmental Research School.
With declining funding and increased state and federal mandates for public education, The Foundation is a vital funding source for child-focused best practice programs for students.

Florida's Rural Students Need Our Help
- A lack of competitive salaries means that rural schools face more challenges in recruiting qualified teachers.
- More students attend rural schools in Florida than all but eight other states.
- Florida's rural schools and districts are larger than those in all but two other states.
How The Foundation Makes a Difference
The Foundation for Rural Education Excellence raises and distributes financial and learning resources to support schools in 15 of Florida's rural school districts.
Funds support:
- Child-focused best practices in Math, Science and Reading
- College and Career Readiness
- Career pathways initiatives
